Oasis Domestic Abuse Service: Transforming Lives Across Kent

For more than three decades, Oasis Domestic Abuse Service has been a vital lifeline for individuals and families experiencing domestic abuse across East Kent, Medway, and North Kent. As a well-established charity, Oasis is dedicated to delivering specialist support, advocacy, safe accommodation, and preventative education, all aimed at empowering survivors and breaking the cycle of abuse.

Oasis understands that no two situations are the same, and its services reflect a tailored, trauma-informed approach to support each person’s journey to safety and recovery. Key areas of provision include:

Oasis provides practical and emotional support to adults who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse. This includes:

  • Crisis intervention and safety planning
  • One-to-one casework
  • Group recovery programmes
  • Long-term mentoring and advocacy
  • Housing advice and legal support

These services aim to help adults move from crisis to stability, while developing the confidence and independence needed for long-term wellbeing.

Recognising the profound impact abuse can have on young lives, Oasis offers dedicated programmes for children and teenagers. These include:

  • Early intervention projects in schools and communities
  • Therapeutic mentoring and recovery programmes
  • Healthy relationship education
  • Family-based support for child survivors

Oasis works proactively to build resilience, support emotional wellbeing, and educate the next generation on consent, respect, and safety.

A cornerstone of Oasis’s work is its safe accommodation services. Refuge spaces are available for women and children escaping dangerous situations, providing:

  • Secure, confidential housing
  • On-site and outreach support staff
  • Help with rehousing, benefits, and resettlement
  • Children’s workers within refuges for tailored family support

Oasis also supports move-on housing and works with partners to ensure survivors can rebuild their lives in a stable, safe environment.

Oasis hosts One Stop Shop drop-in services, where individuals can access free, confidential advice from multiple agencies — including legal, housing, and domestic abuse professionals — in one place. These are essential hubs for those who may not yet be ready to engage with formal services but need immediate support.

Over the years, Oasis has supported
thousands of individuals, advocating for those at risk and leading the way in integrated community-based responses to domestic abuse. The organisation is widely recognised for:

  • Collaborative working with schools, the police, housing, and healthcare professionals
  • Delivering early intervention to prevent crisis escalation
  • Building trauma-informed services rooted in safety, choice, and empowerment
  • Championing awareness campaigns and training to change cultural attitudes toward abuse

By continually adapting to the needs of the communities it serves, Oasis has become a trusted and essential part of Kent’s safeguarding landscape.
