Dyfed Powys parents to benefit from PCC funding

PEGS is set to provide more support for those experiencing Child to Parent Abuse in Dyfed Powys.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for the area, which includes Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys, has secured £271,000 of extra funding from the Ministry of Justice to share among support services for domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Dafydd Llywelyn has pledged to split the funding between ourselves and a number of other organisations (AAFDA, Calan DVS, Carmarthen Domestic Abuse Services Ltd, Pembrokeshire People First, Dewis Choice, Goleudy, and Bawso), as well as awarding additional money secured for a Children’s Independent Sexual Violence Advisor to New Pathways.

Announcing the news, the PCC said Dyfed Powys Police had identified a ‘significant amount of resourcing’ was needed to address the safeguarding demand, particularly around domestic abuse.

“As a result, it is a responsibility of mine to ensure there are appropriate services available to meet the needs of all victims, and that we prioritise investment in services for victims of serious sexual offences.

“I am pleased to have been able to secure this additional funding from the Ministry of Justice, that will increase and strengthen the support services available.”

The portion of the funding received by PEGS will be used to provide one to one support, virtual drop-in sessions and our bespoke programmes and workshops for parents, carers and guardians within the region who are affected by CPA.

Welcoming the announcement, our Founding Director Michelle John said: “Thank you to the PCC Dafydd Llywelyn and his team for recognising how crucial it is to support those experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence, and for recognising the significant portion of people for whom Child to Parent Abuse is a daily reality.

“This issue has a huge impact on individuals, families and communities, and we’re pleased to work alongside the PCC to provide the desperately-needed support that parents are seeking.”
